Outreach

"Be faithful in our preaching and, if necessary, use words."

Mission Statement: At Church of the Servant, outreach is not the energy used when all important tasks are done. It is the tithing of our freshest energy to live out God's promise. The outreach efforts of our church are vital components of a Christian life fully lived. It is the mission of the Outreach Committee to provide guidance and coordination of the outreach interests of the parish. It is the responsibility of each member of the parish to devote oneself to projects that sustain her/his own ministries and are chosen in terms of her/his own time and talents.

For information and/or encouragement about how you can sustain YOUR ministry, please contact COS Outreach at outreach@cosepiscopal.com.

We have a strong belief that we are called to help. Many established community projects had their beginnings at Church of the Servant and we continue to participate in many of them. Some projects have an impact in just a short time while others fulfill an ongoing need in our community. Your participation at any level is welcome and appreciated.  For more information on outreach opportunities, click here.

Some of our other current Outreach projects include:

Wilmington Interfaith Hospitality Network (WIHN) provides overnight shelter, two meals, and transportation for homeless families. COS is one of dozens of locally supporting congregations. You can help by preparing an evening meal, driving the morning or afternoon shuttle, or being an overnight host. Church of the Servant members rotate on a quarterly basis. You can learn more about WIHN at their web site: http://www.wihn.net/.

Mother Hubbard's Cupboard provides emergency food for the hungry. Once a month any needy family or individual may receive food. MHC is a non-profit, all volunteer organization which is supported through donations of funds, time, and food. Church of the Servant is one of nearly 40 area churches, synagogues and service organizations that donate to Mother Hubbard's Cupboard. The last Sunday of each month is the day we at Church of the Servant receive food donations for MHC.  On the second Wednesday of each month at 3:30, volunteers are needed to help unload the food truck at MHC. Please contact Sandy Klein for details at sgwklein@bellsouth.net, (910)343-1506.

Empty Bowls is a program that raises money for local organizations fighting hunger. It draws on the skills of local potters and chefs to produce a simple meal with a powerful message. Empty Bowls of Wilmington occurs in even-numbered years. Parishioners of COS have been involved every year since its inception in 2002. Each ticket holder enjoys a lunch of soup and bread and selects a beautiful handmade bowl to keep as a reminder of the "empty bowls" in our community.
