Spring Spruce-Up of the Church Grounds
On Saturday morning March 25, a dedicated crew of parishioners and friends renewed the annual tradition of cleaning up the grounds at Church of the Servant. For some of us, this was a new adventure. For many, this was a continuation of a spring ritual that stretches back over many years. Tradition dictates that the Building and Grounds Committee organizes the event and provides the donuts. Recollections of years past affirmed that this annual project extended to washing windows and cleaning the inside of the church. In recent years, labors have focused on sprucing up the yard and flower beds around the church grounds.
We had a beautiful spring morning for yard work. We pulled weeds, power washed the picnic tables, and spread mulch. Many wheelbarrow loads shuttled the seven cubic yards of mulch from trailer to beds in need of a new layer. Careful raking evenly spread the mulch around plants and under shrubs. New geraniums added color to the planters near the memorial garden.
The group project created ample opportunities to get better acquainted with new and not-so-new COS members. We asked crew members, “How long have you lived in Wilmington? When did you start attending COS? What attracted your family to COS?” The answers help affirm the commonalities we share and our bond with the parish.
Many thanks to all who contributed your hard work. We will enjoy the beautiful grounds during the coming seasons.
