World Labyrinth Day - May 6, 2023 "Walk for Peace"
The circle of candles was lit, soft meditative music filled the sanctuary, cushions and chairs were placed in the center of the labyrinth for reflection and prayer. The hosts readily welcomed walkers who came to be part of a global event - “World Labyrinth Day.” Church of the Servant hosted the event by opening our doors and our labyrinth to the public on Saturday, May 6, from 12:00 - 2:00 pm. We gave individuals and groups a way to participate in this special walk for peace. People from around the world walked at 1:00 in their time zone creating a “rolling wave of peace.” It was a joy to connect with our global and local family on this special journey.
A labyrinth is also a symbol of and a means to one’s internal journey. Every walk is a new experience of discovering that which is within us, personally, at this moment. Therefore, each person celebrates the experience of walking the labyrinth for themselves. It is a time to let go of the old and take in that which God gifts for us today. There is no right or wrong; there is only discovery; sometimes humorous, sometimes deep, sometimes one step at a time, sometimes as light as a ballerina. When one enters the labyrinth, walks to the center, gives oneself time to listen within and follows the path back to the beginning, there is a releasing, a receiving, and a returning to the world with the gift of self.
Church of the Servant finds joy in sharing this contemplative practice with you every third weekend of the month, Friday evening and Saturday morning. Come alone; bring a friend; perhaps, bring a notebook in which to journal or draw, but mostly, bring your heart and soul.
