The Rev'd Jody Greenwood

Rector

The Rev. Jody Greenwood began serving as our Rector in September of 2017. She earned her Master of Divinity from Candler School of Theology at Emory University and was ordained in the Diocese of Atlanta in 2013. She served four years as Associate Rector at Christ Church in Norcross, GA before being called to COS. She’s passionate about outreach, racial equity, radical hospitality, and making Jesus’ message accessible to all.

A cradle Episcopalian, Jody spent most of her life in Houston, Texas, including a twenty-year career in banking operations, process improvement and strategic planning. She received her undergraduate degree from Wittenberg University in Springfield, Ohio.

Jody loves to spend her leisure time walking on the beach and discovering enticing restaurants with her wife, Alice. When time allows, Jody likes to read, ride her bicycle, play golf, or just hang out with their dynamic rescue-dogs, Abbey, Roxie and Finn.

Learn more about Jody on her Sharing the Journey blog...

With many miles behind me and countless steps ahead, I invite you to share the journey of living… living authentically. Within these posts you’ll find sermons I’ve shared as well as reflections prompted by scripture and personal experience.

We’ll celebrate the good news of life and the countless gifts we find all around us. And along the way, I’ll challenge myself to face the difficult passageways as we help each other through them, hopefully strengthened by persevering to the other side.

The Rev'd Deacon Rhonda Thomas

Rev. Rhonda Thomas began serving as our Deacon in early June 2022. She graduated from the ACTS (Alternative Clergy Training at Sewanee) program at The University of the South in June 2021. After a six-month placement with us, she was ordained into the Diocese of East Carolina at the end of April 2022. As a Deacon, her main focus outside of the church is prison ministry. She currently works with Yokefellow Prison Ministry of NC, a Christian listening ministry that meets with those who are incarcerated and those who are transitioning back into society.

Rhonda was born and raised in Raleigh, NC and the Baptist Church. She graduated from NCSU with a degree in Accounting, and she currently works as a CPA at a local firm. Her husband, Steve, is a Civil Engineer in town who also brews beer, and they have two children - Sarah and Sean. When she is not wearing her Deacon hat or CPA hat, she enjoys reading, watching true crime shows, and walking their dog Pugsley.

Blair Kutrow

Treasurer (Volunteer position)

In 2012, Blair retired from a 25-year career in executive leadership positions with various wireless telecommunications companies including Vanguard/Cellular One, Sprint/Nextel, and XM Radio, to move back to Wilmington, NC to be near to family and help her sister start Coastal Kids Therapy, a private pediatric occupational therapy practice serving Wilmington.

Since 2013, she has been a franchise owner of Sola Salon Studios a national salon suites franchise which enables beauty professionals to own their own businesses by leasing them studio space. She owns two Sola locations in Wilmington, NC.Blair is currently a member of the Sola Franchise Advisory Board.

Blair is also active in several non-profit organizations, serving as Chair of the board of Trey McIntyre Project, an arts organization, a member of the University of North Carolina Graduate School Advisory Board, a member of the board of Oasis, a day school and organization providing autism support and intervention services in Wilmington, a member of the board of Cape Fear Literacy Council which provides literacy education to adults in the Wilmington region, a member of the board of A Safe Place, an organization focusing on prevention, advocacy, and restoration to assist victims of commercial sexual exploitation and domestic sex trafficking. In 2019, she became the chair of the board of MOVE NYC, a New York City based arts organization whose mission is to cultivate greater diversity and equity within the dance profession and beyond.

Blair graduated Phi Beta Kappa with a degree in History from the University of North Carolina in 1984 and has a certificate in strategic leadership from the Business School of Georgetown.

Jonathan D'Amico

Director of Youth Ministry

Jonathan began working at COS as the Director of Youth in July of 2022. He earned his Bachelor’s degree in Community Advocacy and Social Policy from Arizona State University and works as a case manager for New Hanover County Health and Human Services. He has an extensive background in working with youth in faith contexts as well as professionally. He spent the last decade working for World Vision as a medical and volunteer coordinator.

Jonathan’s faith experience has been a journey- a variety of denominations and non-denominations but always with the common thread of finding space and the grace to explore questions and have conversations. Because, as he puts it, “if you’re certain about faith, it might not be faith after all.”

Jonathan and his wife Richelle moved to Wilmington from Pittsburgh, Pa in the summer of 2021 and reside in Leland. When not working he can be found enjoying the Marvel Cinematic Universe, exploring the outdoors as much as possible, and playing in the Wilmington rock/soul band Holy Heat. He admits to having an exceptional collection of cardigans and a serious issue with not finishing books, explaining that he leaves a chapter remaining and puts it away - seriously.

Sally Peel

Parish Administrator & Bookkeeper

Sally grew up in the Midwest and after graduating from the University of Nebraska, Lincoln moved (for what she thought would be a few years) to Breckenridge, Colorado. A few years turned into many more than that and while she enjoyed snow sports of all types, the beach was calling her name. So Wilmington became her new home!

In addition to walks with Sofia her mixed-breed rescue dog, Sally loves to read and travel. Highlights include trips to Australia, Honduras and the United Kingdom. She also loves to volunteer her time with animal rescue groups.

Luis Hernandez

Sexton

Luis began taking care of our buildings and grounds in 2009. He is usually on-site in the evenings Monday and Thursday, and often on Saturday mornings. He can be contacted through the office.

Welcome Sunday Worship Who We Are Life Events / Sacraments Becoming a Member

What are you looking for?

These are the first words spoken by Jesus in John’s gospel, directed to a seeker named Andrew. We are all seekers, and while we may not know how to express what it is we’re looking for, we trust that we’ll know it when we see it.

At Church of the Servant, we seek, serve, and celebrate God and each other in a safe and accepting community. We welcome people from various backgrounds and ethnicities, those who are straight, LGBTQ, married, partnered, single, from other denominations and faith traditions, life-long Episcopalians, brand new to church or returning to church after a long absence.

Come and SeeWelcome Card

We want you to feel comfortable coming to Church of the Servant for the first time! Whether you are attending your first ever Episcopal service or you “know the ropes,” every church is a little different. Here are answers to some Frequently Asked Questions. And if you still have more questions, just ask! We’re a friendly bunch and were all first-timers once.

Learn More About Worship

Who we are…

  • We are an inclusive group of people searching for spirituality and meaning in our lives.
  • We honor people for who they are and where they are in their lives.
  • We live our lives in thanksgiving for the love that God has bestowed on all creation, rather than live our lives in order to earn that love.
  • We are a growing church filled with love and creativity.
  • We work together, play together and search together.

Welcome Card

God is present in every occasion of our lives. Together we mark these special times with celebrations of worship to highlight the ways in which God is always at work throughout the events of our lives.

Baptism Confirmation Weddings Funerals

Though not like a social or professional organization, the Episcopal Church does have membership criteria. These aren’t meant to say who is "in" or who is "out", but instead, to establish who has taken an intentional step to be part of a worshiping community and who is either still discerning, or someone we should invite to join us on this faith journey!

Hearted Hands - The message “Go in peace to love and serve the Lord!” rings out on Sunday mornings and it doesn’t end there. Being the hands of Christ in the world is an essential part of the shared nature of ministry at Church of the Servant. Stewardship in several forms – sharing of our time, talent, and treasure - is the essence of hearted hands ministry.
