The Rev. John Sosnowski and his wife, Cynthia, moved to the Wilmington area in July 2020, after his retirement following 4 years at Christ Church, Ithan in Villanova, PA as the Priest-in-Charge. Prior to that he served in the Diocese of New Jersey as Canon to the Ordinary – the Bishop’s Chief of Staff – working most closely with the bishop on matters pertaining to the 148 congregations in the diocese. Before being called to serve as Canon, John served as Rector of St. Mary’s Church in Stone Harbor, NJ for 14 ½ years where he helped grow the congregation and expanded the outreach of the church. Through a collaborative effort with St. Barnabas Church, Villas, together they launched a storefront ministry in Rio Grande called The Branches. That ministry has expanded exponentially and is now a well-known and well-resourced outreach center in Cape May County.

John was born and raised in Torrington, CT and ordained in 1980 as a Roman Catholic priest, and served two congregations in New Britain, CT. He was received as priest in the Episcopal Church in 1995 in the Diocese of CT. John and Cynthia have been married for 37 years. A trained family therapist, he served as Director of Treatment Services at The Children’s Home of Cromwell, a residential treatment center for children/youth in Cromwell, CT before moving to New Jersey in 1997. He has two stepchildren, Will, who lives in St. Louis, and Abby, who lives in Chattanooga, TN, and a grandson, Sebastian. John and Cynthia have delighted in yearly trips with Sebastian to National Parks across the country to hike and explore since he was six years old. John enjoys golf, the beach, traveling to new places, spending time with good friends, and did we mention, his grandson, Sebastian!
